Mobilizing Amazon’s disaster relief

Mobilizing Amazon’s disaster relief

(somber music) – My stepbrother, he
had to swim out of his house. The roof is gone. The walls are down. And so, right now they’re just trying to put the pieces back together. – My team tracks hurricanes
and disasters all year long. We knew that this was gonna
be a major catastrophe. Immediately after landfall, our team was already looking at what products, what NGOs
were gonna be deployed, who could we partner with. We’re standing in about
10,000 square footage of empty warehouse space that the Caribbean Bottling
Company has opened up for us for Amazon to get these relief items here. And then they’ll be
distributed to the Red Cross. – We are so appreciative to
all the customers out there that have purchased these items, and we are very fortunate to collect them and then process them to
get sent out on the trailers and then on the planes to the Bahamas. – This time it was a hurricane. Next time it could be an
earthquake or a wildfire. It doesn’t matter which disaster it is. I know that utilizing Amazon’s
logistics capabilities, and our employees, and our customers, we will make an impact. – I’m really
proud to be an Amazonian, knowing that we’re
stepping up to the plate and providing aid to a
country that’s in dire need. This one really hits close to home for me. – Just two years ago, my
family lost everything from Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria. My house where I grew up was totally lost. So this is very near and dear to my heart. It’s not just about shipping and buying. It’s also about helping people. – This is a massive effort. I just want to see that plane land. I just want to see the
items get here quickly, but I trust the Amazon teams that have put all that effort into it. So I’m not nervous. (plane engine roaring) – Seeing the
plane of aid land today was really heartening. Having aid at our disposal will allow us to get the right aid to the
right people at the right time. (forklift beeping) – This event has shown
us the power of humanity. How grateful we are to be the recipient of this outpouring of love from Amazon. We have seen the love in motion.
