How your pictures can help reclaim lost history | Chance Coughenour

Translator: Carolina Casado Parras Why do people deliberately
destroy cultural heritage? By doing so, do they believe
they’re erasing our history? Our cultural memory? It’s true that we are losing
cultural heritage to erosion and natural disasters, but this is something
that is simply difficult to avoid. I’m here to show you today
how we can use pictures — your pictures — to reclaim the history that is being lost using innovative technology and the effort of volunteers. In the early 20th century, archaeologists discovered
hundreds of statues and artifacts at the ancient city of Hatra, in northern Iraq. Statues like this one
were found in fragments, some of them missing their heads or arms, yet the clothing that they are wearing and their pose can still tell us their story. For example, we believe that by wearing
a knee-length tunic and open bare feet, this was representative of a priest. However, with a closer look
at this particular piece, we can see that this tunic being worn
was elaborately decorated, which has led many researchers to believe this was actually a statue of a king
performing his religious functions. When the Mosul Cultural Museum
opened in 1952 in northern Iraq, this statue, as well as others, were placed there to preserve them
for future generations. Following the US-led invasion
of Iraq in 2003, a few statues and artifacts
were relocated to Baghdad, but this statue remained. Then in February of last year,
a video was released, and it instantly went viral. Maybe some of you remember seeing it. Here’s a short clip. (Video) (Singing in Arabic) (Singing ends) Not a very pleasant sight, right? Did you notice anything
familiar in the video? There it is. There is that very statue, as it was toppled over, breaking into pieces. When Matthew Vincent and I saw this video, we were shocked. Since we are archaeologists
using innovative technology for digital preservation, an idea sprung to mind. Maybe we can crowdsource the images
that were taken of these artifacts before they were destroyed, to create digital reconstructions. If we can do that, maybe we can put them
into a virtual museum to tell that story. And so two weeks after we saw this video, we started the project
called Project Mosul. Remember the pictures of the statue
I showed you before? This is actually the crowdsourced
reconstruction of it before it was destroyed. Now, many of you may be wondering, how exactly does this work? Well, the key to this technology
is called photogrammetry, and it was invented here, in Germany. It is the technology that allows us
to use two-dimensional images taken of the same object
from different angles to create a 3D model. I know you may be thinking
this sounds like magic — but it’s not. Let me show you how it works. Here are two crowdsourced images
of the same statue. What the computer can do is it can detect similar features
between the photographs — similar features of the object. Then, by using multiple photos, in this case, it can begin
to reconstruct the object in 3D. In this case, you have the position of the cameras
when each image was taken, shown in blue. Now, this is a partial
reconstruction, I admit, but why would I say partial? Well, simply because the statue
was positioned against a wall. We don’t have photographs
taken of it from the back. If I wanted to complete a full
digital reconstruction of this statue, I would need a proper camera, tripods, proper lighting, but we simply can’t do that
with crowdsourced images. Think about it: How many of you, when you visit a museum, take photographs
of all parts of the statue, even the back side of it? Well, maybe if some of you find
Michelangelo’s David interesting, I guess — (Laughter) But the thing is, if we can find more images of this object, we can improve the 3D model. When we started the project, we started it with
the Mosul Museum in mind. We figured we may get a few images, some people interested, make one or two virtual reconstructions, but we had no idea that we had sparked
something that would grow so quickly. Before we knew it, we realized it was obvious: we could apply this same idea
to lost heritage anywhere. And so, we decided to change
the name of the project to Rekrei. Then, in the summer of last year, “The Economist” magazine’s media lab
reached out to us. They asked us, “Hey, would you like us
to build a virtual museum to put the reconstructions back inside, to tell the story?” Can you imagine us saying no? Of course not. We said yes! We were so excited. This was exactly
the initial dream of that project. And so now, any of you can experience
RecoVR Mosul on your phone, using Google Cardboard or a tablet or even YouTube 360. Here is a screenshot
from the virtual museum. And there it is … the partial reconstruction of the statue, as well as the Lion of Mosul, the first reconstruction
completed by our project. Although the video doesn’t explicitly show
the Lion of Mosul being destroyed, we have many other examples
of large artifacts being destroyed that were simply too large
to have been stolen. For example, the Gate of Nimrud in northern Iraq. This is a digital
reconstruction from before, and this is actually
during the destruction. Or the Lion of Al-Lāt, in Palmyra, Syria: before … and after. Although virtual reconstructions
are primarily the main focus of our project, some people have been asking the question: Can we print them in 3D? We believe 3D printing
doesn’t offer a straightforward solution to lost heritage. Once an object is destroyed, it’s gone. But 3D printing does offer
an addition to tell that story. For example, I can show you here … There is the statue from Hatra and the Lion of Mosul. (Applause) Thank you. Now, if you look closely, you’ll notice that there are some parts
that have been printed in color, and some parts that are in white or gray. This part was added
simply to hold the statues up. This works the same way
if you visit a museum, and a statue is found in fragments; it’s put together
for the people to see it. This makes sense, right? However, we’re much more interested in what virtual reality
has to offer for lost heritage. Here is an example
of one of the tower tombs that was destroyed in Palmyra. Using Sketchfab’s online viewer, we can show that we have reconstructed
three parts of the exterior of the tomb, but we also have photos of the inside, so we’re beginning to create
a reconstruction of the wall and the ceiling. Archaeologists worked there
for many, many years, so we also have architectural
drawing plans of this lost heritage. Unfortunately, we are not only losing
cultural heritage to areas of conflict and at war — we’re also losing it to natural disasters. This is a 3D model
of Durbar Square in Kathmandu, before the earthquake
that occurred last April … and this is after. You may be thinking, you didn’t create these 3D models
with only tourist photographs, and that’s true. But what this represents is the ability for large, public
organizations and private industry to come together
for initiatives like ours. And so one of the major challenges
of our project, really, is to find photographs that were taken
before something happens, right? Well, the internet is basically a database
with millions of images, right? Exactly. So we have begun to develop a tool that allows us to extract images
from websites like Flickr, based on their geotags, to complete reconstructions. Because we’re not only losing cultural
heritage to natural disasters and in war, but we’re also losing it
to something else. Any idea, just looking
at these two pictures? Maybe it’s a little difficult to remember, but only a few weeks ago, this was the example of human
destruction by human stupidity. Because a tourist in Lisbon
wanted to climb onto this statue and take a selfie with it — (Laughter) and pulled it down with him. So we’re already finding photographs to complete a digital
reconstruction of this. We need to remember that the destruction of cultural heritage
isn’t a recent phenomenon. In the 16th century, European priests and explorers burned
thousands of Maya books in the Americas, of which we only have a handful left. Fast-forward to 2001, when the Taliban blew up
the Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan. You see, cultural heritage
is about our shared global history. It helps us connect
with our ancestors and their stories, but we’re losing pieces of it
every day to natural disasters and in areas of conflict. Of course, the loss of human life
is the most heartbreaking loss … but cultural heritage offers us a way
to preserve the memory of the people for future generations. We need your help to reclaim
the history that is being lost. Will you join us? (Applause)

Exploring an Abandoned Hospital Filled with Thousands of Patient Files

In this episode we’re exploring an abandoned hospital that was built in the 1930s and abandoned around two decades ago [Steam] Since it’s part of an active facility parts of the building still have electricity and patient files can be found throughout Now join us as we explore this historic building [Music] This video is sponsored by Mack Weldon, they make some of the most comfortable daily wear clothes you can buy. Virginia Union Something biomedical Jones attached Quarterly accumulated index. Radiology technology Radiology 1975 Seems like any topic is covered here pretty much like a general hospital. This looks like all radiology. That’s radiology too. More books Oral mucus and health and disease color atlas of pathology Every topic is here Let’s head up to the first real floor. We have to climb over more books to get to the stairs. The gated staircases, yeah. Yeah, I love this Oh oh. Light off. Look at this. That’s sick! Holy shit there’s power in here. Let’s keep going. Okay. Well, this definitely tops the list of buildings I did not expect to have power You know all those people who say… “How is it abandoned? There’s power, it can’t be abandoned.” Look at this. This is a great place, holy shit Those chairs just chillin everywhere This office still looks set up and it’s just completely falling apart Paper still on the walls. Like cabinets, pharmacy, library, medical records. You want to go through some of the files? Yea sure. The patient files. All their names are right here. There you did not… Holy shit. Entire medical records of patients. That’s pretty much illegal. Yeah. Literally. Wasn’t that like Hitler or something? Yea I’m gonna look for a date. Hang on. This is one person’s file right here Okay, so the date on this is 95 Further down at the end. 91 that’s old. Okay, so this one here is 95 that’s pretty late. Which is the same date we’ve seen on the walls, which might be the last this building was used. Everything’s 95 Hipa the bill that requires confidential handling of patient information wasn’t passed until 1996 one year after the date on these records. The fonts of them have rusted off the drawer. That’s pretty crazy This hospital campus has been active since the early 1800s, but the particular building were exploring has only been around since the 1930s Throughout the years it served as a residence hall for nurses a medical school and most recently an administration building These wires all look destroyed I don’t think the wires are down there. They go down. Know what. Look how rotted they look. Yeah. Probably a little. We’re getting to the lobby. This was the main desk where you’d sign-in I wonder if there’s a tunnel into the big main building. Finish this floor first It’s weird how there’s only one light with the light on so far. Yeah, but that was near where it was kind of connected to the other building. Yeah. There’s a cote in this cause We gotta lay low here cuz we’re pretty visible through all these windows. This is cool Now that is old looking It’s at least one more floor above this next one and then maybe an attic. And then there’s a basement too for this area that we haven’t gone into There’s a cool wheelchair down there There’s a computer or something there. Did you see the monitor in that room? There’s a couple of them. Look at this growth. Is this like an electric wheelchair? There’s one in there too This is really worn away. You could see the belts that ran the wheels. And a motor. Did you see this just ran on to car batteries? I didn’t, but yeah. To dental ward. People have been putting their names up here. Now we got TPP 19. I wonder if they were here in 07. 02. This place has been abandoned a long time. MS DOS Look up. It’s right there. The light. Oh shit. With the wires coming… There is only that one little wire connected. You see like a rolling shutter effect or something. Frame rate effect with the lens. That wire goes somewhere down there. It’s so weird. These are filing cabinets with the glass. That thing’s pretty Want some sour cream? Well, the florescents are off up here. Wait a second. This one’s slightly odd, and it’s hanging from the ceiling. Holy shit. Turn your light off. Yeah. That’s actually insane. I’ve never seen anything like this. Do they want this place to burn down? I had pretty low expectations for this place. Look look look. Yeah. Should I try this? Try it. Try the other one Nothing. These are all like separate… Yeah. Like emergency light. That’s what they are. They are emergency lights. Oh. Look all these files. Just rows and rows of files. Yeah These look like patient record files also. They do. I’m gonna go see if they are. Oh, yeah, these are all patient files All of them That’s crazy When do the HIPAA law come about because what if it wasn’t a thing in 1995 Look how short the stall doors are in this bathroom. I can barely see. These flush after using the toilet. And they are like, what’s up dude? Yeah. This building has a pretty nice facade. What the what! It’s a cat. I just saw a black shadow in the corner of my eye. And I’m like, “What was that?” This is the green floor. Is it the skylight stairwell? Yeah, I saw that before. You can hear the building creaking every time the wind blows. Look, a doll and a stethoscope. A stethoscope. Two of them. This one is actually somewhat attached. Look at the fucking baby on the table. Oh I’m aware. [Laughs] I’m aware There is a chair just chilin on a table. Chairs can’t just chill on tables? Well it is. Right there. It’s not allowed. There’s a fucking vulture in here. No! It’s in here. It scared the shit out of me. Is he just chilin? He’s looking right at me. Holy shit! It was behind a desk when I stepped in here and it fucking jumped. Oh no it’s shitting, it’s shitting. It’s pooping. Did we attack… I think we literally scared the shit out of him. Dude, he’s attack No, they’re vultures like eat dead things. I know, but what if it like, feels threatened? It might… He has that way to go. Holy shit. This thing… I was like so close to it, but I wasn’t recording. How close were you when you first saw it? Like at the desk where the typewriter was. It was on the back side of the desk. That fucking almost… I heard you scream from like all the way down the hall. Alright, let’s go Cots. I’m sure there’s prints in this room. Got names on them. Taylor. Paint peeling off the ceiling. Wow. This is basically a preschool in here. It’s what it looks like. I wonder if this was daycare for hospital employees or if this is a full-on children’s floor. Well, yeah because there are medical devices in here. Tell me how creepy this is. Five out of seven. Five out of seven? That’s pretty creepy. Look. Ohhhhhh. Auditorium. Let’s go check that out. Okay. That might be a light on down there too. Oh wow. Look at this. That’s a lot of boxes. Whoa. I did not expect this in the basement. Basement auditorium. Yeah. These are like receipts. There’s amounts. For patients and it has names and addresses Oh this is power right. Yep. That’s electricity. Holy shit. We need boots We have to come back. What about this way? But that goes towards the active building stuff. I don’t know. That goes towards the Department of Corrections buildings. So let’s not do that one. Yeah Oh this one is only flooded in this one little spot. Holy shit. This is so cool. Hey. Move that box over here. Can you move this box over here? Oh you want me to get my feet wet, but not yours? I don’t know if that noise is something… Do you hear that water? In the pipes. Oh it’s in the pipes. This isn’t the right way for that. Maybe it will go that way. Yeah. It does don’t look right, or left, left. This is insane. This looks left. No. Is it blocked? I think it connects somewhere. You can feel the heat coming off the pipes. Plaster a shop. Plaster shop. There’s more steam coming off. And the whole infrastructure, the complex is running through here. See anything? It looks like it’s gonna be sealed. I see boards across it already? Yeah. Looks really old Oh there’s construction shit man. Okay, so they’re already tearing that building apart. There’s just a bunch of destruction. After discovering the tunnel was blocked off we decided to end our exploration for now at least Most of the other buildings on the campus are being demolished for mixed-use redevelopment, but it’s unsure what the future holds for this historic building Today’s episode was sponsored by Mack Weldon. Whether we’re exploring in the freezing cold crawling through asbestos filled tunnels Or traversing thick forests urban exploration can be downright uncomfortable However, it’s nice to have one thing that will always provide us comfort on our explorations. And that’s Mack Weldon clothing I picked up this long-sleeve shirt that contains a blend of modal marina wool and cashmere. It’s Extremely soft warm and deals with body odor. Well, so it’s ideal for our long urbex road trips I picked up a pair of these super soft Mack Weldon sweat pants Which are great to change into when we’re back at the hotel room doing some editing like right now I’m a lot more productive when I’m comfortable and these Mack Walden clothes are some of the most comfortable I own For 20% off your first order visit mackweldon.com and enter the code proper people at checkout

Spinal Implant Procedure for Compression Fracture

>>Hi, I’m Majid Khan. I am a director of spine
intervention radiology at Johns Hopkins. I do this minimally invasive
spine augmentation procedure by placing vertebral
implant to raise height in moderately-to-severely
compressed vertebral body. This implant really makes
a difference in patients who have moderate-to-severe
compression fractures, in which your primary goal,
of course, is pain palliation, but the second most important
goal is height restoration. So this is image guided. Everything is done through one needle, what we call as the access cannula. We put that in, and everything goes through
that access cannula, so that’s why only one puncture. This is the stent, and there are two side
holes in this central bar, and that’s where the cement comes out and fills up the central
portion of the implant and anchors the implant
within the vertebra. With the implant, what is different is that we are leaving the
implant in the vertebral body and just putting bone cement
to anchor that implant within the vertebra. This patient population where
height restoration becomes a major issue, I think this
is the best device to use in such patients. Only few places offer this
treatment all over the country, and Hopkins is one of the
premier sites for this. (light music)

HTC Vive’s Fractured Launch?! (10th September 2015) – ValveTime News Round-Up

Hi, and welcome to the ValveTime News for September10th 2015. Each week… or two in this case, we bring you the biggest talking points
regarding Valve and the community. Those of you looking to get your hands on your
very own HTC Vive by the end of the year may want to hold your expectations for the time being. As revealed by a press release last week,
the Q4 2015 launch of the HTC Vive will actually be restricted to a limited release largely
targeted at “communities” and developers, with the larger-scale full public release coming in early 2016. It’s not abundantly clear whether this was the plan all along or if HTC and Valve have had to push
the full launch back somewhat in order to react to an unexpected level
of demand or other circumstances. We just know it’s a shame most people will have
to wait even longer to get their hands on one. The same press release also revealed that Valve and HTC have received over 10,000 requests for developer kits, with over 80 different virtual reality games
currently in production for the headset. While 10,000 requests is definitely a lot,
it seemingly won’t get much higher any time soon, as we’ll discuss in our next topic. Our good friends over at SteamDB
also recently discovered that Valve have stopped accepting sign-ups for
the developer edition of the HTC Vive, as shown by the updated sign-up page. The updated page now simply reiterates this point before confirming that developers already
signed up for the developer edition can still expect their devices to ship throughout
what little Summer we have left before continuing into the Fall, right up until the Vive’s official, but still limited,
release around the Holiday season, as previously mentioned. This was likely done to give Valve
and HTC a more fixed perspective on just how many developer editions will need to
be shipped out prior to the first public launch, helping them construct a more concrete release schedule. As usual, we’ll keep you posted in the run-up to the release. Speaking of Valve-made hardware, the Steam Controller was recently made a little bit
more enticing for those potentially interested. As announced on the Steam Controller community hub last week, current and future pre-orderers of the Steam Controller will receive a free copy of Rocket League and
Portal 2 to their associated Steam account, both of which should have been added to
game libraries by September 4th 2015. From what we’ve heard, the Steam Controller is
supposed to work quite nicely with both games, which is really saying something considering
a certain someone writing this script may or may not have quite a lot of hands-on experience
playing games with the Steam Controller, but that’s for another time. Rocket League’s own recent successes
on Steam were further celebrated by announcing that SteamOS and Mac versions
of the game would soon be available, making it all the more obvious why this game in particular is now being so closely associated with the Steam Controller. Obviously, this pre-order offer only extends to countries
able to actually order the Steam Controller, such as the United States, the United Kingdom,
and certain parts of Western Europe. It’s not clear if the deal will still be available
to other regions of the world if and when the order pool expands. With the Gun Mettle campaign for Team Fortress 2 quickly
approaching its conclusion these past few weeks, Valve took the opportunity to implement a brand new feature relevant to those collecting the supposedly-but-not-actually
unique campaign-weapon skins. With Valve being as data-driven as they are,
it’s no surprise that they’re fully aware of just how many duplicate and spare weapons
campaign passes owners have laying around, which the new “Trade-Up” system should help reduce somewhat. Like a similar item recycling mechanism in CS:GO, the Trade-Up system allows TF2 players
to input 10 select items of a set rarity in order to receive a single new item of one quality-tier higher. This should help clear out a lot of the junk
campaign pass owners have laying around while also offering them the chance to
get their hands on some nice rewards. The most recent updates for Team Fortress 2 also
introduced the “Gun Mettle Cosmetic Case,” a new case which drops exclusively
to those with a campaign pass. The case, once opened, provides the
player with a chance to receive one of 16 potential community-created cosmetic items, including this fine hunk of potassium. After a five month break, or hiatus, or whatever you want to call it, the latest issue in the now-long-running
Team Fortress Comics series was finally released upon the world this past Monday. The fifth issue of the comic, titled “Old Wounds,” takes place several hours after the conclusion of Issue 4, catching up with RED team and their
allies after they were captured by the Team Fortress Classic mercenaries during their
visit to the lost underwater world of New Zealand. Yes, that actually happened. We’re deep into the series now and
this latest issue is riddled with spoilers, so we won’t go into any more detail
about what happens in it or why — just know that a lot of people get really messed up. While this week’s CS:GO patch didn’t really feature much more than a few uninteresting bug fixes and minor
improvements to various maps and features, Counter-Strike fans still had something to look forward to — that is, as long as they’re also fans of cool looking merchandise. After the launch of CS:GO’s merchandise
Steam Workshop page a while back, this past week saw WeLoveFine release the
first batch of community-created items, most of which include t-shirts, alongside
the occasional mouse pad, hat, or scarf. All the currently released items retail for between $20 and $25, meaning there’s now plenty of variety when you
consider the Valve Store’s own official merchandise. After over a year since it started,
we more than likely concluded our mini-series covering the Android ports of Valve titles by taking a look at the recent release of Half-Life 2: Episode Two
onto Nvidia SHIELD. Like the three other games we’ve covered
in previous Spotlight episodes, the Episode Two Android port featured some hidden
data leftover from earlier in development, but things were a little different this time around. To take a closer look at what could very well
be our last video on the subject, be sure to head on and check the
video out for yourself after I say… …And that brings us to the end of this
relatively diverse two weeks of Valve news. Before you go, don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel; to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and TwitchTV; and to join in with the conversations over
on the ValveTime.net community forums. Thanks for watching and bye for now.

In this particular
case, the plate will be used as a reduction aid. That is, the final
fraction reduction is accomplished after
the plate is attached. Here, the plate is placed
posterior to the biceps. This particular plate
has a curve and a twist. Allows it to be
placed proximally, posterior to the biceps,
along the greater tuberosity. And then, more
distally, it is placed between the pectoralis
and deltoid insertions onto the shaft. Here is the provisional
reduction of the head fragment to the plate. At this point,
judgement of the height of the plate relative to the
proximal fragment is paramount. The plate is provisionally
secured to the shaft, again, prior to final
reduction of the main fracture. Next, the plate is further
secured to the head fragment. The vector of this clamp
allows compression of the plate to the head fragment
and also pulls the head into slight valgus,
relative to the plate. After provisionally securing the
plate with additional K Wires, the position of the reduction,
relative to the plate, is evaluated with fluoroscopy. Internal and external
rotation views confirm satisfactory
positioning of the plate.

Your definitions of the illnesses change Every day if one day your depression means you can’t get out of bed, but then it changes the next day, to You can’t pay the bills to the next day, You can’t go to the movies that means you’ve made it up for attention number five When it’s convenient for you your illness Takes a step back meaning if you really want to do something you’ll do it and you forget about your illness or how you’re feeling or your anxiety or your depression or if you want to impress someone or Something like that you completely forget about your mental illness if you do that it’s a sign you’re making your mental illness up for attention six you think it’s a controversial thing to talk about basically if you think you’re brave or honest or happy to talk about your mental illness online or be open and Honest about it then this is a sign you are making it up for attention okay sounds Look, I don’t know where I get in half these things from but anyway on to the next one sign seven you don’t accept it might be your fault you might have had loads of Ex-girlfriends boyfriend’s whatever you never blame yourself. It’s always them It’s never you this might be a sign you’re making your mental illness up for attention sign Eight you constantly post things online So people will direct message you or text you or ask you if everything is okay? Or what’s wrong? Basically? It’s just hit me I must be faking my mental illness because this website says just cuz I hashtag something They’re right, you know? I’m faking it *extra dramatic gasp* Seriously when you read things like this or when you watch videos like this pay no attention to them people who make content like that have clearly never Suffered they don’t know anybody who suffered and they don’t Understand what it is like to suffer from a mental illness Everybody who suffers is Completely different so how I suffer would be different to how you suffer there might be similarities but we’re not exactly the same are we so you might handle it differently to how I handle it, but just because I handle it Differently to how you handle it, doesn’t mean the way I handle it is right or the way you handle it is right, and It doesn’t mean the way I handle it means it’s fake and I’m lying and I’m making it up for attention nAnd it’s the same for you pretty much on this list I I do most of these signs it means I’m making it up for attention now I’m not sure if this website has done this for a “joke” Or its a– you know, a joke or one of these websites that thinks they’re funny, but Looking at the other content that this website Makes I think they are being serious about this list I’d love to know your thoughts in the comment section down below what you think about these signs whether you agree with them or whether you disagree with them, or whether you agree with me and think they’re talking a load of crap and everybody’s different and just cuz I do something differently to you doesn’t mean I’m making it up for attention or you are everybody handles things differently If you’ve enjoyed this video all I’m asking is you give this video a like so I can see If you guys and girls at home want to see more content like this if you haven’t already hit the subscribe button and the bell to get notifications of when I go live or I’ve uploaded a new video. TEMPUR-Topper Supreme Review – The Best Pressure Relief?

TEMPUR-Topper Supreme Review – The Best Pressure Relief?

Marten: Hey guys, Marten here from Mattress
Clarity. Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you’ve
probably heard of Tempur-Pedic. They were one of the pioneers of the memory
foam mattress. When I heard about their topper, I was really
excited to try it out. See if it has that classic Tempur-Pedic feel. I want to talk about the construction, my
experience with it, who it’s a good for, and who it’s not a good fit for. Is it the right fit for you? Let’s find out. [music] Marten: I want to talk about the design of
the TEMPUR-Topper Supreme. First I want to say, if you want to see a
list of my top picks for mattress toppers, just go to Mattress Clarity, best mattress
topper. Let’s look at the TEMPUR-Topper Supreme. First off, it’s going to be three inches thick. On the outside from the top cover, you’re
going to have a polyester blend. On the bottom is going to be cotton, polyester
blend as well. More of a canvas feel. Going to give the topper some traction so
it won’t move around quite so much on top of your mattress. You probably want to know what’s inside. Let’s take a look. The cover is actually removable, which is
awesome. You can wash it at home. Keep this topper clean. A very, very nice option. On the inside, you have three inches of a
TEMPUR material. This is a very soft memory foam. Slow moving even for a memory foam. Very, very slow moving. Also, very high density as well. In terms of size options, you have twin, twin
long, double, queen, king and California king. Now I want to talk about my experience with
the TEMPUR-Topper. First off, you get this topper at your house
in a box. You take it out. It is going to be rolled up. You take off that thick plastic. Put it right on your bed. It is a softer memory foam. It takes a little bit of time to expand, but
I was able to use this topper that night. Also, in terms of off gassing not a lot of
off gassing. Not too much of that chemical smell. Very nice in that respect. To test out the firmness of this topper, I
put it on top of a mattress that was close to a 9 out of 10 in terms of firmness. This brought the mattress down to a 6 out
of 10. A very soft mattress topper. That is three points of firmness taken off
the mattress. In terms of sleeping position, starting on
my back was a very nice match for me. The mattress pillow was too firm for me when
I was on my back. This softens it up quite a bit. My hips sink in the right amount. Also, some nice contouring and this foam presses
up into my lumbar area. Very, very nice for back sleeping. Moving to my side. This topper really shines. Lying on my side, I am feeling almost no pressure
on my shoulders and my hips. I’m a larger person. A lot of times, I press right through toppers. I hit the mattress beneath, so I don’t feel
the best pressure relief. With the TEMPUR-Topper here, not the issue. Amazing pressure relief. Moving from my stomach, it is softening the
mattress quite a bit. I’m bowing at the hips. Getting out of alignment. Not the best match for stomach sleeping. In terms of feel, as I said before, it does
have this very, very soft slow-moving memory foam feel. Even for memory foam, a very slow-moving memory
foam. Very quick sandy. Also, very high density as well. Also a big issue with the memory foam toppers,
is warmth. They can trap heat. With the TEMPUR-Topper, I can say I was sleeping
a little bit warmer at night. Maybe not the best option for hot sleepers. I want to talk about the pros. Who I think this topper might be a good fit
for. First off, I think if you’re looking for something
for back sleeping this is definitely a good option. If you have your mattress that is way too
firm for you, your hips don’t sink in quite enough, going with the TEMPUR-Topper is definitely
a good idea. Softens up the mattress. Your hips will sink in a little bit more. You’ll feel some nice foam pressing up into
your lumbar area. It’s a very good choice for back sleeping. I think also this really shines again with
side sleepers. If you sleep on your side primarily, definitely
check out the TEMPUR-Topper. Softens the mattress quite a bit. I think even if you’re a larger person, you
won’t bottom out from the top. You’ll feel nice pressure relief on your shoulders
and your hips. Even if you’re a lighter person, a great option
there as well. If you like that memory foam feel, that classic
memory foam feel, Tempur-Pedic was that feel. That is that classic memory foam feel. Very slow moving. Very quick sandy. If you like to slowly sink into your mattress,
the TEMPUR-Topper is definitely a good option. Last but not least, if you sleep with a partner
you find yourselves waking each other up at night because of your movement. Take a look at the TEMPUR-Topper. With this thick memory foam, it’ll help cut
down on motion transfer so you and your partner will sleep better throughout the night. Let’s talk about the cons. Who I think this topper may not be the best
fit for. First off, if you sleep primarily on your
stomach you might want to look elsewhere. This is going to soften your mattress quite
a bit. This could cause your hips to bow in when
you’re on your stomach. You get out of alignment. Not the best match for stomach sleepers. Also, if you’re a hot sleeper this is probably
not the best choice for you. One of the things with memory foam like this
is it can trap heat. Actually direct it back at you. When you’re on top of this topper, you can
actually find yourself sleeping hot through the night. Also, if you have trouble moving around at
night, you have mobility issues, probably not the best topper for you. Again, it is that slow moving memory foam
feel. If you have trouble moving around at night
you’re worried about getting stuck in your mattress topper, probably not the best choice. Finally, right now at full price, this topper
is $400 for a queen size. I think it’s a good value when you consider
what you’re getting, but it might be outside of people’s price ranges. There are definitely more affordable memory
foam mattress toppers out there. In the end, I think this mattress topper is
a great option for back sleepers, side sleepers and those who want that slow-moving memory
foam feel. It also comes with a 25-year warranty and
free shipping. That’s about it. If you’re just getting started looking for
mattress or bedding products, definitely check out MattressClarity.com. Also, if you have any specific questions,
you want to post a recommendation, just leave a comment below.
